Getting There

ScienceOnline Oceans will be held in Miami, Florida, at the University of Miami.

Hotel: Our hotel is the Sonesta Bayfront Coconut Grove. More information, including the code to gain access to the conference rate at the hotel, can be found here. The address is 2889 McFarlane Road, Miami, Florida, 33133, and the phone number is 305.529.2828.

Driving: From basically anywhere in the United States other than Southwest Florida, take I-95 south, and keep going until you run out of I-95. At that point, you’re less than 20 minutes from the hotel. I-95 South ends at US-1.  Continue on US-1 South for 1.9 miles.  Turn LEFT onto SW 27th Avenue and drive for 0.8 miles.  Turn RIGHT onto S Bayshore Drive and drive 0.3 miles.  Continue to 2889 McFarlane Road.  The hotel will be on the RIGHT.

The hotel has an attached parking garage (extra fee), the Miami Science Museum has a free parking lot, the University has free visitor parking on weekends. Out-of-town guests who are driving to the meeting and staying at the hotel are strongly encouraged to take conference buses to official events, as Miami driving is extremely confusing and stressful. Local attendees are encouraged to drive themselves to the Miami Science Museum Friday night and the University Saturday.

Flying: If you are flying to ScienceOnline Oceans, we strongly recommend flying into Miami International Airport (MIA). Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is only 20 miles away and sometimes offers cheaper flights, but it will take more than an hour to get to Miami from there. The longest it has taken me is 2 hours. The extra cost of getting to Miami from Fort Lauderdale airport is often higher than the savings from flying into Fort Lauderdale airport, particularly if you are taking a taxi and paying by time.

By rail: The southernmost station is the Miami station.  The Hollywood station is farther away, but close to I-95 and may be a convenient choice if someone is picking you up at the train station.  If you are traveling down the eastern seaboard, Amtrak has several route/schedule options.

By Bus:The Greyhound Bus has a station at Miami International Airport.  From there, you can use public transit, taxi/shuttle service, or rideshare to arrive at the conference hotel.  Use the Greyhound site to view routes, schedules, and fares.
